After viewing the documentary, Lisa Adams, a local business owner, who facilitates developmental and organizational workshops for business owners, executives and local youths, was compelled to purchase a license to exhibit the film and make it immediately available to our local community. “I wanted to raise a greater awareness in our area of the global intellectual competition rising around our nations’ educational system and economy,” said Adams. “May we come together, as a group of concerned citizens, to view this compelling documentary and examine our own educational system as it compares to global trends and standards. Are we doing enough to prepare our youth for the future?”

This documentary chronicles the lives of six high school students in three countries around the world, the United States, India and China. It examines education in the United States as it compares to global standards. Once a child completes the eight grade, they have approximately 2 million minutes to build their intellectual foundation and prepare for college and ultimately their adult future.

The filmmakers, Bob Compton, Chad Heeter and Adam Raney, composed a global snapshot, from the viewpoint of kids preparing for their future, a world class panel of experts and a frank yet startling discussion on the differences among the countries’ cultural views of educational priorities, and preparation and the changing nature of competition in the knowledge economy.

Some statistics from the documentary sited that:
- Less than 40 percent of U.S. students take a science course more rigorous than general biology, and a mere 18 percent take advanced classes in physics, chemistry or biology.
- Only 45 percent of U.S. students take math coursework beyond two years of algebra and one year of geometry.
- 50 percent of all college freshmen require remedial coursework.
- Compared to the U.S., China now produces eight times more scientists and engineers.
- India produces up to three times as many scientist and engineers, as the United States.
- China and India are now preferred destinations for increasing numbers of multinational high-tech corporations, partly due to the low wages and high quantity and quality of talent in the present generation.
